Toddlers leukemia in remission "The family just got word from Albuquerque that little Israel Foster has gone into remission. On Dec. 9, 2001 3-year-old Israel was taken to Gerald Champion Regional Medical Center with an apparent viral infection, and was immediately rushed to Albuquerque. Israel's life had depended on how quickly they could get him to the University of New Mexico Children's Hospital. The diagnosis showed that Israel was suffering from Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) and would need to undergo extensive chemotherapy treatments. Two days before Christmas, he went into remission. The doctors are astonished at his quick remission, His body is now producing its own (blood) platelets. Leukemia is a cancerous disease in the bone marrow that interferes with the production of white blood cells and platelets that are critical in fighting infections. Approximately 3,250 children are diagnosed with it each year. Eight percent of cancer deaths each year are attributed to it. But it looks like Israel is pulling through. 12-05-02 Israel was undergoing tests at the hospital. One such test was a spinal tap. A tragic event took place where he was accidentally paralyzed from the waist down. 12-09-02 Israel has shown some improvement in regaining his motor skills in his lower legs the last 48 hours. 12-10-02 Alamogordo Daily News:
